What Causes Elevated Creatinine Levels After Undergoing Angioplasty?

My father is diabetic patient and undergone angioplasty. After that his creatine level jumped from 2.2 to 2.6 then 3.3 and now 3.6. His urine level is normal, i.e., 60-70ml/hour. Doctor saying there might me a requirement for Dialysis, is it needed in my father s case?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Some sort of decrease in renal function may occur after angioplasty or any acute illness. The creatine of 3 or 4 is most of the times not an indication for dialysis. We generally advise it if creat rises over 8. So. If he is producing 60 to 70 m of urine in one hour, I am hopeful he won't need dialysis. However if the renal functions deteriorate, he may need it. But there are other reasons for dialysis sometimes, you may ask your doctor if there is any other reason. The creat is not that bad.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
