Hi,I am Dr. Prabhakar Koregol (Cardiologist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I have been having some issues for about 18 months, my heart enzymes, ck,ckmb and trop t are elevated. Trop I is normal. I had further testing and a cardiac MRI showed mild pericarditis. I took anti-inflammatories for about 6-8 months. I had my enzymes checked again and they were all higher than they have ever been and also my AST was mildly elevated. I have a history of high trigs and chol but my LDL and HDL are good. My doctor and the cardiologist and rheumatologist say I have nothing wrong and to forget about it. What could possibly be causing these results and what can I do about it? (All lab testing was normal 2 years ago and previously). I would like to know why my levels went up and how come they continue to be elevated. Any ideas????? Thanks for your time

General & Family Physician, Dr. B M Gupta's Response
Hi. Your cardiac enzymes are raised from very long time. Trop t specifically increases when there is cardiac tissue necrosis. In renal failure trop t can falsely increased but trop i does not increase. According to latest study if cardiac enzymes are increased for a long time even without symptoms have not a good prognosis.you require detail mri of heart which include T1 T2 late gadolinium study to rule out myocarditis. Consult another cardiologist. Take care.
