What Causes Elevated Heart Rate After Increasing Levothyroxine Dosage?

my doctor increased my dose of Levothyroxine from 150mcg to 175 mcg. I was fine at first, but now I m noticing a slight increase in my heart rate and I m sweating more than normal. Otherwise I feel great, better than I ve ever felt since my diagnosis. Should I be concerned with the increased heart rate? I know that too much thyroid medication can have serious effects

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi welcome to the health care magic

Levothyroxine high dose sometime can lead fluttering sensation in heart, nervousness and headache like side effects

If high dose of levothyroxine continued for long time than secondary hyperthyroidism can occur if TSH level goes down below 0.5

Hence kindly check your TSH level

If TSH is within limit than doss of levothyroxine can be decreased

Consult endocrinologist for examination and discuss all these

Hope this will help you
