What Causes Elevated Heart Rate While Suffering From Gastritis?

I have gastritis, when it s inflamed I notice I become sensitive to certain foods.after eating salty food or sugar my heart rate goes up. Does that mean I have something wrong with my heart? Or is it from my gastritis? I don t have any heart conditions. I have dialed 911 when this happens I thought i was having a heart attack. By the time they arrive it s back to normal. And I feel dumb.

Hello,

That heart rate elevation is not a manifestation of a heart attack. There may be heart rate elevation in a heart attack but it's rarely the only symptom, usually, there is some degree of pain. The fluctuations are against it as well. Most probably it's due to the stress caused by gastritis.

However, if occurring often it would be prudent to see a cardiologist in order to have an ECG and possibly a 24 hour Holter EKG as well to check for heart arrhythmias.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olsi Taka,
