What Causes Elevated Heart Rate?

I have been to the doctors today with a heart beat of 123 per minute he has given me blood thinning tablets and more tablets for regulating my heart if these don t work by the morning he said I will have to go to hospital for more tests. I am a 57 year old male 13 and a half stone 6 foot tall with no other medical problems. Is this condition something to worry about

Hello,

Based on that information it is difficult to conclude what could be the reason for increase in heart rate. It is essential to know what is your usual heart rate? Secondly do you have high BP or is there hyperthyroidism (increased T4 and T3 levels)? If none of these issues are there then please follow the advise of your treating doctor.
