What Causes Elevated Heart Rate?

I was exercising in the gym today and had accelerated heart rate readings on three different pieces of exercise equipment. The readings were in the range of 160-165 bpm. I maintain my heart rate about 135-140 while exercising. I did not have shortness of breath and my heart did not seem to be racing. I felt the way I always have. The gym does not maintain the equipment well and on the exercise bike I had been riding, I asked a member to check his heart rate and it showed about 20 bpm high than he had expected typically. I am 69 years old and have exercised my whole life.

Consult a cardiologist and get evaluated.

We have to rule out possible causes like cardiac arrhythmia.

Detailed evaluation including serial ECG is required.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
