What Causes Elevated Heartbeat?

I have been having a problem with my heart pounding hard and fast. It pounds so hard I can feel it in my throat. It's been happening intermittently over the course of the last several days. It's getting to the point that I'm getting nauseated and lightheaded because of it. What might be causing it?

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello!

Welcome and thank you for asking on HCM!

Your symptoms could be related to possible cardiac arrhythmia.

For this reason, I recommend consulting with your attending physician for a careful physical exam and some tests:

- a cardiac ultrasound to examine your heart function and structure
- an ambulatory 24-48 hours ECG monitoring to examine your heart rhythm trends during a prolonged time
- complete blood count for anemia
- thyroid hormone levels for thyroid dysfunction
- blood electrolyte for possible electrolyte imbalance.

You should discuss with your doctor on the above issues.

Hope to have been helpful!

Wishing all the best,

Dr. Iliri
