What Causes Elevated Lipase Levels?

they told me I have an abnormal blood result. the range for lipase is 8 to 76 and mine was 93. I have had a growth they have been biopsying for years in where my pancreatic duct and bile duct meet. they said there was nothing left of it and it has always tested benign. could i have pancreatic cancer and what tests are next to determine or rule out that diagnosis?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Lipase levels what you have mentioned is definitely higher than the reference range.

However, elevated lipase levels doesn't always means that it is due to pancreatic cancer. Even inflammation of pancreas namely pancreatitis could also result in its elevation.

Kindly take an ultrasound scan followed by CT/MRI scan to know if there are any lesions in the pancreas.

Kindly consult Physician with the report for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Ashakiran S,
