What Causes Elevated Liver Enzyme Levels In A 1 Year Old Infant?
My son is 1 year old. I want to understand why his liver enzymes are high? At first he was cleared but they did more blood work now the liver enzymes are in his muscles? And the only thing the Gastroenterologist wants to do is continue to do more blood work & I will not keep taking my son so I can keep getting the same test results over & over again.
Increased liver enzymes in young children can be caused by conditions that primarily affect the liver or they may be increased due to other diseases, not directly related to the liver. In some cases, a wide range of investigations is needed and this may be frustrating. On the other hand, unfortunately, there is no other way but to have the needed tests to determine the cause of the altered liver enzymes.
I understand your frustration with so many tests conducted and not having a diagnosis yet, but it is very important to continue the needed follow-ups and examinations so that a diagnosis and need for treatment can be determined.
I hope this answers your query. I remain at your disposal in case further medical assistance is needed.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General and Family Physician
