What Causes Elevated Liver Enzymes Along With Appetite Loss And Fatigue?

Hi, My brother had bone marrow transplant a month ago and is suffering many complications. He was diagnosed with veno occlusive disease and was treated with fenofibrate. But now his bilirubin total is very high 6.3. They tried steroids but no success. He has no appetite, fatigue. They are now trying photopheresis ECP treatment. His liver enzymes are in the low 100s. Can you shed some light on what all this means? Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Herpes Zoster ( shingles) is reactivation of varicella-zoster virus infection.Chickenpox is it's primary infection, viral particles remain in sensory ganglia of nervous system and when immune system fails, virus becomes reactive and develop clinical symptoms of Varicella or localized as herpes zoster. Herpes Zoster is contagious only to persons with no previous immunity. You have had it at your childhood so don't be worried.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
