What Causes Elevated Platelet Count?

I had my spleen removed over 50 years ago and have been seeing GI dr for various gi problems which were resolved. But this week he had a cbc done on me and it showed my platelets were over 400,000. Since I am over the age of 50 wouldn t that be standard for patients like me?
