What Causes Elevated Protein And White Cell Count?

My husband was diagnosed with epidymitis and was prescribed Cipro - 500 mgs x 2. CT scan and head x-ray were normal [no bleed or stroke]. Lumbar fluids clear although he has elevated proteins and white cell counts. He is so weak and has trouble standing and is experiencing headaches. He is type II diabetic. What now? What else could this be. Husband is 64 and in otherwise good health.

HI THANKS FOR POSTING YOUR QUERY ON HCM.

ELEVATED CSF PROTEIN AND WHITE CELL COUNT INDICATE TB INFECTION,PROBABLY TB MENINGITIS.

THIS MAY PRESENT ATYPICALLY WITH LAB ABNORMALITIES AND HEAD ACHE.I SUGGEST YOU TO GET CSF-PCR TO DETECT THE ORGANISMS.

TREATMENT WITH ANTI TUBERCULOUS THERAPY WILL HELP TO CONTROL YOUR INFECTION,

CONSULT A CHEST PHYSICIAN FOR FURTHER ASSISTANCE.

THANK YOU
TAKE CARE
