Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I started on a 100 mg dose of allopurinol 3 days ago. A month ago, I has a severe gout attach on my left foot. Blood test showed elevated uric acid. The foot pain and swelling had healed. However, after starting the above dose of the drug, last night my left foot swelled up pretty bad with severe pain. I am taking pain killer - Tramadol HCL 50 mg. Is this severe pain episode normal in the beginning, or, am I supposed to stop taking Allopurinol immediately? Thanks for the reply.
