HI I WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE SURGERY ON MY BACK TODAY. THEY CANCELED IT BECAUSE MY WHITE BLOOD CELL COUNT WAS HIGH. WHEN I WENT TO MY PRIMARY TO GET CLEARD FOR THE SURGERY HE DID BLOOD WORK ON ME AND MY WHITE BLOOD CELL COUNT WAS 9.2. TWO WEEKS LATER WHEN I WENT TO DO MY PRE-OP IT WAS 1600. THREE DAYS LATER IT WAS 1400. I'VE HAD ALL KINDS OF TEST DONE ON MY BLOOD AND NOBODY CAN TELL ME WHY IT STAYS ELEVATED. MY SIBLINGS AND MY MOM HAVE THE SAME PROBLEMS

Hi, Thanks for asking. Based on your query, my opinion is as follows. 1. Increased WBC count indicates an ongoing inflammation. 2. Stress could cause leukocytosis. Correlation with C-reactive protein and ESR is essential. 3. Get a complete hemogram and peripheral smear done. Based on specific leukocyte increased or if any immature cells are found, further studies can be done. Without these details, i cannot further give any opinion. Do get back with details. Hope it helps. Any further queries, happy to help again.
