Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I am quite active person, run marathons, go to gym and play tennis. My body cholestrol and weight are well between the recommended range and so are my all other blood tests except SGOT and SGPT - 355 & 589 ( 10X normal range) The physician has asked me do ultrasound to understand the problem. I would appreciate if you could help me understand the problem. Could it be just some blood diagnosis error? Please note that I went to gym couple of days before the test day and lifted weights and had protein supplements, which I started very recently. Also, my mother was treated for elevated SGOT/SGPT (NAFL - non alcoholic fatty liver disease) 4 years back.
In your case any pathology of liver has to be ruled out by scan and biopsy of liver, if needed. Your levels are not normal and further work up with regards to liver is indicated. The problem of fatty liver may be there.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
