Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Elevation In The LDL And Triglycerides While On Atorvastatin?
I am 56 years old. I am 0verweight by some 10 kg but quite active physically. I have been on atorvastatin 5mg for some 8 years now but do not have any heart problem and my bp is normal. I do not have any other health problem except occasional rise in LDL and triglycerides. I want to stop atorvastatin and control my diet and increase physical exercise to 2 hours brisk walk daily. I want to check my LDL on monthly basis and will switch over to Prelipid capsules if my LDL goes beyond limit. Do you think pre lipid is better substitute of statin in my case. It is possible that the prelipid combined with increased activity and diet may work for you but since non-traditional medications or supplements are not required to be tested by medical studies like other medications the exact effect is not known.
The other risk factors for heart disease and stroke (besides weight, heart disease and blood pressure readings), would be a family history of heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease, inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
