What Causes Enlarged Liver And Spleen?

My daughter has had constipation for a week, then diarrhea for a week with intermittent pain in the abdomen area with bloating and occasional fever/sweats. Lately her pain has gotten worse that radiates to upper abdomen and chest. Her ct scan of chest and abdomen showed enlarged liver and spleen. Dr says, it s due to a virus? What causes that and how long will she have this pain?
