Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Enlarged Spleen And Pressure While Breathing During Pregnancy?
I am now 7 weeks pregnant and i have an enlarged spleen. It is always enlarged around 16cm (i believe its cm) but right now i am having alot of issues like pressure when taking deep breaths, and its always sore not painful but you can definitely tell something is wrong, left shoulder pain and back pain. I saw my primary doctor today to discuss and he order an ultra sound of my spleen. But they were unable to do it for a few weeks, my doctor talked to them and pushed the appointment to 2 days away. I am always weak and never hungry, i have to force myself to eat. What should i look out for? Will the baby be okay?
The enlarged uterus pushing against any enlarged organ like spleen or liver will cause difficulty in breathing or breathlessness however at 7 weeks pregnancy its unusual for someone to have the complaints of breathlessness unless the spleen is too enlarged. The splenic enlargement has many reasons varying from malaria to a bleeding disorder and its difficult to pinpoint the cause without a full examination and investigations.
I would advise you to undergo a full blood and urine checkup along with ultrasound to find out the cause for splenic enlargement. Once the cause has been found, you can undergo treatment for it. I do not see any issue with baby's development as of now.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
