What Causes Episodes Of Abdominal Pain And Diarrhea With Vomiting?

The last few weeks I have had episodes of diarrhea, then pains in the high abdomen area. Then after a short time I start vomitting. The vomit has something unusual to me. It has long pieces of what looks like sausage links but it s soft and I haven t eaten any sausage. The first two times this happened I was visiting Colorado and put it down to elevation sickness. We have been home in Missouri for a few weeks now and I had the same thing happen last night. I feel better today.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the issue of diarrhea with vomiting indicate travelers diarrhea through ETEC (type of E.Coli) responsible for the condition.

Majority of the cases do recover well with fluid electrolyte correction and supportive care as probiotics and others. Lesser number of patients require antibiotic assistance as with Doxycycline or else to shorten the duration of symptoms.

Hope my answer was helpful. If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.

I wish you the best recovery. Take care.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
