What Causes Episodes Of Breathlessness?

Hi,I have had hashimotos thyroiditis for 5 years and within the last 2 years I have had a few episodes of waking up gasping for air. Its really scary and it takes me a few minutes of sitting up to get my breathing back to normal. Sometimes it is accompanied by coughing. Wondering if my thyroid problem has anything to do with it and how many episodes is considered sleep apnea? I have them like very rarely but it does worry me.

Hi
This isn't likely due to your thyroid problem unless you're hypothyroid and that's not being properly treated

Just because you've woken up with an episode like this a few times doesn't mean you don't have sleep apnea so you need a sleep study to check for that
