What Causes Episodes Of Numbness In Hands?

Hi, for about the past month, my right arm goes to sleep pretty often. It started out being only when I was lying down but now it occurs when I m awake and even asleep. Also, around my wrist area and my middle finger on the same hand, it has a strange feeling. At times when I try to grasp things, it resists. Could you give me a possibility of what it might be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Abnormal sensations may be related to neuropathy which is abnormal structure or function of the nerves.

There are different possible causes such as: (1)vitamin b12 or folate deficiency
(2)trauma
(3)diabetes
(4)liver or kidney disease
(5) exposure to toxins
(6)some cases of hormonal disease

Blood tests to check the vitamin levels , screening for diabetes, liver or kidney function may be needed.

I hope this helps
