I do smoke & take alcohol. under going treatment at CGHS, prescription attached.of late, for the past about 2 yrs I am not getting erectness (erectile dysfunction).a year back consulting a local doctor and got blood test done (to know certain count to check this). forgotton the test, but as per the test report & doctor the count was quite high & am having erectile dysfunction due to weakness caused by diabetes.please advice:- what to do?-is it due to diabetes?-is it due to side effect of any of the medicine I am taking?- can it be rectified by medication?-if yes, please advice treatment (medicines etc)- tools like vacurect are of any use & are they safe.

Hello,
Erectile dysfunction is a complication of diabetes, due to autonomous neuropathy i.e. The damage to nerves that is caused by high blood glucose levels. It can, however, be secondary to drugs, so you should mention the drugs you should be taking currently. Blood test are not very useful for determining the cause. I usually advise sildenefil to my patients but that must be started keeping in view your current medicines and yout blood pressure levels.
Alternative medicines should be best avoided as their safety has not been thoroughly investigated and studies on their use are lacking. Vachrect itself doesn't seem to be harmful, but as I have said there are not many studies that demonstrate its effectiveness as well as any adverse effects it may have.
Regards
