What Causes Erectile Dysfunction?

I have had several factors over the years that the doctor says contribute to my erectile dysfunction. I have coronary artery disease, (which my Cardiologist says is not contributing to my ED); I have spondolytis, which my Neurosurgeon says is not contributing ot my ED; and I have a shrunken prostate, which my Urologist says that combined with the neuro and cardio problems are the cause of my ED. My question is, are there treatment options, (surgery), that can offer me any hope to a normal sex life. I am not alelrgic to ED meds, but I am hyper sensitive to them as they cause sometimes extremely uncomfortable side effects that distract me from enjoyment of the sex act. I seem to have no physical impediments, heart or back, to the act, it s just that nothing works.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Based on your description, it. seems that your erectile dysfunction could be more due to psychological factors than physical illness. Kindly practice start and pause technique regularly. Also, do pelvic floor muscles strengthening exercises. Also practice meditation along with these to overcome apprehension and anxiety. Consume diet like papaya, saffron, dates and dry fruits, which would help to achieve good blood flow to the penis and helps to sustain erection. Surgery to treat your erectile dysfunction can only be considered if other forms of therapy are not satisfactory. Surgery is generally done by implanting a prosthetic device within the penis, which causes an erection. Gradually, you should be able to build confidence by following the above things without undergoing surgery.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
