What Causes Erection Problem And Rashes On The Scrotum After Taking APO-Atorvastatin?

Are sexual problems (inability to keep erection) and a skin rash (on the scrotum) side - effects of taking 20mg of apo-atorvastatin calcium for high cholesterol. I used to take 10mg (for years) and had no problems but my doctor raised it to 20mg because my cholesterol had gone up.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello. Thanks for asking Healthcare Magic. Atorvastatin reduces levels of "bad" cholesterol (low-density lipoprotein, or LDL) and triglycerides in the blood, while increasing levels of "good" cholesterol (high-density lipoprotein, or HDL). It does not cause sexual problems. Inability to keep erection can be related to your high cholesterol levels. Rash on scrotum can be due to a fungal infection. Apply cotrimazole ointment on rash. If the problem persists you can go for a duplex ultasound which is is used to evaluate blood flow, venous leak, signs of atherosclerosis, and scarring or calcification of erectile tissue. Hope this helps. Thanks and regards.
