What Causes Esophageal Pain Post Spine Surgery For A Herniated Disc?

18 years ago I had surgery on my cervical spine for a herniated disc. When I awoke I was in such agony I asked the recovery room nurse if she could induce a coma. My esophagus was on fire. I stayed in the recovery room for 3 hours. Every time I awakened they would shoot morphine into my IV and knock me out. I then spent 5 days in ICU, 4 of which I breathed through an oxygen mask that was a very cold mist, because of esophageal pain. I was told that my left lung collapsed and my esophagus closed during surgery, so they did an emergency intubation. I assumed this was from excess anesthesia, and a normal reaction. But I don t see anything about this happening on Google. Is this a normal reaction? Ever since I ve had episodes of esophageal spasms, but very infrequently.

Though I am not a surgeon yet my experience says there is some gap in information imparted to you 18 years back.

However oesophageal spasm may be tried to be managed by Ayurveda approach. The worst is that it will not settle. But there are equal chances for some relief. The treatment will be along the lines of acid reflux/ hiatal hernia etc except surgery part.

Need is to meet some experienced doctor at a good Ayurveda hospital. May be they try Panchakarma also for doing best. Whole process is safe, easy and economic and without side effect. One more input may be useful to you. Whole globe will witness World Yoga Day on 21 June. 35 minutes free package will be taught to be practiced at home later. This may be VERY USEFUL to you.

Hope you get a hint useful to you.
