What Causes Esophageal Spasms While On Losartan And Metoprolol?

I was recently started on Losartin Potassium. This was added to my scheduled Metoprolol and HCTZ. I have started having esophageal spasms et feelings of bowel pressure even without constipation. I have IBS so usually have frequent diarrhea. Is this new medication interacting with my other medication or can it cause these problems? I also take zantac BID and OTC sinus medication as well as OTC pain relievers and vitamin D. I am not diabetic and have few health issues other than hypertension and IBS and fibromyalgia.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Metoprolol and Losartan act together to increase each other's effects, they are not known to cause esophageal spasms but persons react differently to medication. It would be best to be seen if the symptoms continue. An assessment by a gastroenterologist would be best.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
