What Causes Esophageal Spasms With Burning Sensation In The Chest?

Hi, I had a very severe esophageal spasm and ended up undergoing all sorts of heart tests to rule out heart attack and heart issues. I continue to have discomfort in my chest and some mild spasms plus some burning all inside my chest. I am seeing my gastro doctor next week. What can actually be done for this. I take omeprazole 40 mg 2x per day but it does not fix this any more. What should i expect when I see my gastroenterologist?

Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your situation and problem.
By your history and description, possibility of GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) and esophageal spasm is more.
And for this you need to get done upper GI (gastrointestinal) scopy.
So gastroenterologist will mostly do this.
Along with proton pump inhibitors (omeprazole), certain lifestyle modifications and smooth muscle relaxant drugs are needed for symptomatic relief.
Lifestyle modifications like
1. Avoid stress and tension. Avoid hot and spicy food.
2. Avoid large meals, instead take frequent small meals. Avoid junk food.
3. Go for walk after meals. Keep 2-3 pillows under head in the bed to prevent reflux.
4. Loose weight if you are obese. Quit smoking and alcohol if you have these habits.
Don't worry, with drugs and lifestyle modifications, you're will definitely improve.
Hope I have solved your query.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
