I have been producing large amounts of white foamy saliva, my tongue and mouth are very sore making it painful to eat or to drink-particularly warm liquids. This problem started several months ago- It could be related to dental work the was started in Feb. of last year

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain there can be a few reasons for the foamy saliva production in large amounts.

One reason can be Acid reflux disease, In which the stomach acid regurgitates into the mouth leading to burning sensation in chest as well as soreness of tongue and mouth can be due to the injury to the mucosa due to the acid as well as production of excessive amount of foamy saliva.

Other reason can be infection in the major salivary glands which are Parotid, Submandibular and Submental salivary glands.
Infections in any of these can lead to excessive salivation.

Other reasons can be nerve injury supplying the glands leading to hyperactivity.

It can also be seen in case of patients wearing dentures.

Other dental works does not seem to cause any such problem considerably.

I would suggest you to consult a doctor and get evaluated for the exact cause of the problem and the treatment will be based on finding the exact cause.

Hope your query is solved..
