What Causes Excessive Bleeding After Intercourse?

Hi there, the other day I had rough sex with my partner. Despite the uncomfortable condom and lack of lube it felt fantastic, yet the next day I was incredibly sore ! It hurts to walk, stand, & contract my lower abdominal muscles (it feels like Im bruised on the inside). What is really concerning to me howeve,r is the amount of bleeding I ve been experiencing. I ve been filling up maxi pads all day, but it doesn t seem clotty like my periods usually are, though perhaps it is because I haven t had my period this month, this just seems out of the norm. Should I be worried? This is day one of the bleeding , I m going to give it more time to determine if it is my period or some type of damage perhaps?

Hi there, thanks for posting your query.
It looks like there has been a bad trauma to your vagina and perhaps a possible tear in the vaginal wall or surrounding tissues. As you have been bleeding so much following sex, it doesn't look normal to me. And if the bleeding is active, meaning due to rupture of a blood vessel, it may need to be addressed immediately to stop blood loss. It makes sense that you don't ignore it before you lose so much blood and do report to your doctor who can have a look and assess the extent of trauma and treat you appropriately ( if it needs to be sutured if it is an external trauma or if it requires additional diagnostic tests like ultrasound scan to look up for internal bleeding as well ). Hope this helps. Take care!
