What Causes Excessive Discharge During A Smear Test?

Hi... just got my smear test. Doctor told me that I have lots of discharge during the test. I asked her but she said wait until next week for the result. She is not the warm person, so I am afraid to ask further. I am worried now and can't stop thinking about it :(

Hello, greetings! Thanks for your query. Excessive vaginal discharge can be due to a variety of factors. The most common causes are bacterial vaginosis caused by a bacteria called gardenerella. Another major cause is due to a parasite called trichomonas vaginalis that causes trichomoniasis. These infections are accompanied with excessive vaginal discharge, itching, burning sensation while passing urine. The treatment for both the above conditions is flagyl which can be obtained on the basis of a prescription by your local gynaecologist.
