What Causes Excessive Ear Wax?

My boyfriend has always produced a lot of ear wax. We never use cotton swabs because that just clogs his ears; instead we use ear candles once in a while. But his ear has been clogged and he can barely hear. We did two ear candles on his clogged ear and it pulled out ALOT of ear wax but his ear still didn't "Pop." so we tried hydrogen peroxide tonight and still no luck.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your boyfriend have symptoms of formation of excess ear wax which is mainly due to ear infection. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to avoid touching and pricking it with any object. Put debrox like over the counter ear drop to soft wax as it will help in easy removal. Visit ENT specialist once and get it examined. You should get otoscopic examination done and start treatment after proper diagnosis. It could be due to fungal infection as well. Apply warm compresses. Syringing can be done by doctor to flush ear properly. Maintain proper hygiene.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
