What Causes Excessive Ear Wax?

Hi, my 6 year old daughter has had significant yellow ear wax in one ear for the last month. Started with cold symptoms, might be seasonal allergies (if she d developed them beyond mild dust). Didn t worry about that until tonight I noticed that the area of her scalp behind that ear seems to have changed and is lumpier/slightly bulging. She says it does not bother her. ALSO, today, I found a tick on her scalp a few inches from where the lumpy area is, behind that ear. I removed the tick (which got on at some point today as she had a bath this AM) and she says she feels fine and her scalp isn t bothering her and her ear is just a bit itchy. BUT... would love to know if there s anything I should be concerned about. THANK YOU!!!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello, my name is Dr.Dorina Gurabardhi. I understand your concern. Some advices that I can give to you are:
-You should never attempt to dig out earwax buildup yourself. This can cause major damage to your ear and lead to infection.
-Softening Earwax,to soften earwax, you can purchase drops made specifically for that purpose. You can use the following substances:mineral oil
hydrogen peroxide,carbamide peroxide,baby oil
glycerin
-Ear Irrigation:Another way to remove earwax buildup is by irrigating the ear.
If you’re unable to clear the wax or if your ear becomes more irritated, you should seek medical treatment.
Hope my answer was helpful, if you have any other questions I'll be glad to help, thanks!
