What Causes Excessive Fluctuations In BP Level?

My blood pressure was high for a while and I was on medication to control it. I got pregnant and my blood pressure went back to normal till the last 2 months and then back to normal again after I had my daughter. She is now almost 8 months and my blood pressure is high again. Today it was 138 over 110. What is causing my high blood pressure? I ve recently lost a lot of weight and we thought me gaining so much weight is what had caused my high blood pressure and it would go back to normal after losing weight. I m so frustrated. HELP!!!

Hello,
Most of the time the tendency to have high blood pressure is genetically determined. It is true that weight gain, salt, stimulants, smoking, caffeine, not exercising and fever can all elevate the blood pressure, but if it is recurrent then you may need treatment. It is important to keep blood pressure in the normal range so do everything you can to keep it low and if it is still elevated then you will need to be on a medication. If it is very erratic then it is possible that there is a medical problem like hyperthyroidism that is causing the problem and that would need to be diagnosed and treated.
Good luck and see your doctor soon to make sure your blood pressure stays in normal range.
Regards
