What Causes Excessive Hunger?

I feel hungry a lot, even a short while after I ve eaten, but I have to make myself eat, and it s difficult for me to choose food from a full fridge because I have no energy to fix a meal. When I do eat a good meal, I feel fine for a while, and my bowel movements are normal. But I have a knot in my stomach just below the rib cage most of the time.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Bouts of extreme hunger that are relieved on having something sweet are indicative of hypoglycemic attacks due to poor blood glucose control in your body.

You need to have a glucose tolerance test to diagnose if you have any diabetes.

Losing excessive weight might also improve the borderline abnormality in blood glucose control.

The pain below your armpit may be due to a cardiac-related problem like angina.

A complete cardiac checkup with ECG and ECHO is required under the guidance of your cardiologist for a diagnosis.

It is less likely to be due to GERD. Proper investigations are necessary for early diagnosis and proper treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
