What Causes Excessive Menstrual Bleeding While Suffering From PCOS?

Hi, I am 26 with PCOS and overweight. My period started on Saturday. For two days the bleeding was normal. Monday and Today I have been changing my pad every 1.5 hrs to 2 hrs and passing a lot of clots (some as big as the palm of my hand). I have some light cramping and bloating. Is this something I should worry about and go to the ER or just make an appointment with OBGYN?

Hi,

PCOS causes problems with the periods but most of the time it would be expected that you would have reduced bleeding unless you did not have your periods for a long time. It is important that you do seek medical attention. If you feel the bleeding is too much going to the ER is a good option.

You will need to be examined to make sure of the cause of the bleeding so probably a pregnancy tests, a vaginal examination and a transvaginal ultrasound are going to be performed and also some blood tests to make sure how much you are bleeding (CBC test).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
