What Causes Excessive Mucus In The Throat While Suffering From Alcoholism?

I just went on line to see what the end stages of alcoholism after watching today s Dr Phil episode. I have been sober for 22 years now, but something did concern me. They said something about mucus in throat. Keep in mind I haven t had a drink since June of 1995, but recently I have had mucus in back of throat. I can clear it with hot water and lemon juice (read that on line) should I be worried about a connection from a disease this far flung?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for trusting HCM

Mucus secretions in the throat is not related to liver problems due to alcohol intake.
Excess mucus in throat can be due to allergies, post nasal drip associated with sinusitis, laryngitis, strep throat, GERD etc. It is unrelated to any liver pathology.

Hope this answers your question
