What Causes Excessive Mucus In Throat After Eating?

HI. I have seen a few different doctors with no real answers. I have excess mucus in my throat after I eat and sporadically throughtout the day. It feels like post nasal or acid reflux or something...(it goes down the back of my throat). I saw an ear nose & throat and the scoped it and it was just a little red from coughing up excess saliva/mucus. She then told me to take priolosec an referred me to a gastro doctor...That doctor said I could have an EGD if I wanted to find out more. Before that an Er doctor did a chest x ray and a cat scan of my throat..everything was good except he said I had a small spot on my lung but because of the location of the spot he was not worried about it. (I am). Antiobiotics don t work...Er checked my blood for everything and it was ok...blood sugar a little high. symptoms worsen when laying flat or eating cheese, spice and drinking tap water. Just looking for answers. Thanks in advance

Hello,

All your symptoms are suggestive of acid re-flux disease. There are some tests to confirm this ailment like 24 hour esophageal pH monitoring. I cannot comment over your small spot in lung since i have not seen your chest x-ray myself. Here are some tips to prevent acid re-flux:
- Do exercise and lose some weight
- Take small portion of meals
- Don't lie down immediately after eating
- Elevate your bed
- Avoid smoking and cut back on alcohol.
- Also avoid food that can cause GERD symptoms like fatty, spicy, acidic and carbonated beverages.
If your symptoms are not improving with these remedies go to your Doctor for proper detailed checkup and treatment for GERD.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
