What Causes Excessive Phlegm Along With Cough And Vomiting?

I am currently experiencing excessive respiratory mucus, which is often causing coughing, and occasional vomiting, due to triggering the gag reflex. I am currently on Flomax, Valsartin HCT, and Amlodipine. My doctor is trying to treat it with Bactrim and Rifampin. I was previously on Levaquin, and they suppress the symptoms for a few hours, and then they return full force.

Hi,

Excess phlegm can be due to infection, common cold, pollutants/environmental irritants, COPD, chest congestion, allergy-causing agents like fur, cigarette smoke, chemicals, dust, bacteria and viruses. Take the medications as prescribed.

Since your symptoms are getting chronic, you are suggested to see a Pulmonologist/PCP and get sputum culture, chest CT, pulmonary function test (PFT) examination done. Get physically examined and evaluated then get treated. Stay away from addictions if any. Avoid respiratory irritants. antibiotics, mucolytics and expectorants are effective but should be taken under a PCP.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K,
