What Causes Excessive Phlegm In The Throat And Loss Of Voice?

I have had phlegm in my throat for almost 2 months. It started off as what I believe to be a cold, then the phlegm just kind of lingered and hasn t gone away. Just when I think it s getting better, I lose my voice again. I m not sick, I just can t use my voice which is pretty annoying. Any idea what it might be and how I cant get my voice back? I ve tried just about everything I can think of.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The mucus/phlegm in your throat is likely due to post nasal drip of mucus. This is usually either due to acute (recent/short term) or chronic (persisting) infection or an allergy to some product (food/drink/medication/soap/ cream etc).

The fact that it is has been ongoing for 2 months means that it is likely either an allergy or chronic infection.

Treatment would consist of the use of a course of antibiotics along with antihistamine /decongestant combination such as benadryl d, allegra d, zyrtec d.
A nasal spray such as nasonex, nasocort, flonase or rhinocort, would also be helpful as well.

The spray and anti histamine/decongestant have to be used consistently for at least 2 to 3 weeks.

I hope this helps
