What Causes Excessive Salivation After Taking A Contraceptive Pill?
Can taking the emergency contraceptive pill cause excess saliva? Recently my partner and I had unprotected sex, it was during the heat of the moment as we usually use protection (condom or in other occasions the pill) however I have stopped using the pill, I usually have a period on the 19th-24th of each month, we did it on the 8th and I took an emergency contraceptive on the afternoon of the 8th. A few days later I ve been salivating a lot, I can no longer taste food properly and I feel very fatigued. I am worried these are early symptoms of pregnancy.
Hi, Thanks for posting in HCM. I understand your concern. Alteration in taste in the mouth and as a result having excessive salivation are not early signs of pregnancy and could happen temporarily after intake of some hormonal preparations such as emergency contraceptive pill. If you have taken the emergency contraceptive pill within 72 hours of unprotected intercourse, it should protect from pregnancy by causing withdrawal bleeding within 3 weeks from the day of its intake. If bleeding doesn't take place by 3 weeks, you need to take urine pregnancy test and seek medical attention promptly. Hope the information provided would be helpful. All the best.
