What Causes Excessive Salivation And Chronic Cough?

my wife has had a condition for 30 years where she produces excessive clear saliva or mucus in her throat. then she coughs basically every hour. she wakes up 2-3 times at night to clear her throat. she is 62 and otherwise healthy. she was tested twice over this period for allergies with non found. she gets some relief with coricidin hbp. not much else helps. will try chlor trimeton next. any suggestions.

Excess mucus production and cough points towards chronic acid reflux or bronchitis like condition. If she is having smoking habit then has to be stopped. If acid reflux history present then antacid like rabeprazole can be prescribed for that.
I suggest you to consult physician for physical examination and Auscultation.
