Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Excessive Sleepiness While Having Multiple Sclerosis?
First, I have MS. I don t want that confused with this. I have noticed that I will fall asleep. Example: I woke up today at 9:30am. Took shower, sat down at my desk and fell asleep. Not like me at all. A couple of weeks ago, went to serve my self icecream, fell asleep, in the middle of the kitchen floor, woke up and saw the ice cream lid on the counter and could not figure out where the icream was until I looked down and saw the i/2 gallon on the floor completely melted. IT HAD BEEN TWO HOURS!!!!
I would suggest modafinil or Caffeine for you. The drug is a central nervous system and metabolic stimulant and is used both recreationally and medically to reduce physical fatigue and to restore alertness when drowsiness occurs. It produces increased wakefulness, the faster and clearer flow of thought, increased focus, and better general body coordination. Effects begin less than an hour after consumption, and a moderate dose usually wears off in about five hours.
Caffeine has a number of effects on sleep but does not affect all people in the same way. Caffeine is a natural component of chocolate, coffee and tea, and is added to colas and energy drinks.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
