Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..
As per your query it seems that your mother in law is suffering from a problem of
hypersalivation, although excessive saliva in mouth can be felt in 2 conditions:
1. Due to excessive saliva production and it can be caused due to causes like
acid reflux, excess starch intake, liver disease, inflammation of
pancreas, oral and throat infections..
2. Due to reduced swallowing capacity When a person is unable to swallow the normally producing saliva in mouth it can be felt as if there is increase in saliva production and can occur in conditions like difficulty and painful swallowing like in
Tonsillitis, mumps,
peritonsillar abscess, while there can be causes related to nerves and
central nervous system like Bell's Palsy, Parkinsonism,
Myasthenia gravis etc..
Nothing to worry, consult an Otolaryngologist and get her evaluated and a through clinical evaluation and investigations as per the cause suspected can help in confirming the cause and treatment can be planned accordingly..
As of now she can use mouthwash to gargle and brush her teeth 2 to 3 times a day as both these have a drying effect in mouth and she can feel relieved..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.
