General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

There are natural variations in how people sweat just as there are variations in other body functions.

True excessive sweating goes beyond the normal physical need to sweat (hyperhidrosis.)

You sweat heavily for no reason- when it is not appropriate to the circumstances. There are two types of hyperhidrosis, like localized, generalized.

Local excessive sweating generally takes place in underarms or face or head or feet and both sides of the body are equally involved. Such type of sweating is generally normal.

Generalized excessive sweating may be due to underlying medical conditions like hyperthyroidism, diabetes, tubercular infections, alcoholism, rheumatoid arthritis, certain cancers etc.

Anxiety, obesity and the use of medications like certain psychiatric drugs, antihypertensives, certain antibiotics etc.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ivan R. Rommstein,
General Surgeon
