Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Excessive Sweating And Shortness Of Breath While Having High Blood Pressure?
My husband is 65 years old and has high blood pressure & acid reflux, which he takes medicine for. For the past 2 weeks or so he's ben waking up around 3:00 a.m. soaking wet. He's not short of breath or have any other problems that he's aware of. Is this something we need to be concerned about?
** Thanks for contacting with your health concern and after reviewing your history I'm of the following opinion:
1. It could be PND [paroxysmal nocturnal dyspnea] or pulmonary edema [PE] or congestive cardiac failure [CCF] for which he should check/consult with his cardiologist for thorough history, physical examination, and relevant laboratory [complete blood count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, HIV test as routine, thyroid and blood sugar level] and radiology study [chest x-ray].
2. As GERD [reflux disease] is associated with night sweat giving a trial course of antihistamines with certain lifestyle changes [head elevation at night] will exclude the same
3. In addition to above one must exclude other causes of night sweat like: lymphoma, leukemia, lung abscess, fungal infection.
