What Causes Excessive Sweating During Blood Donation?

I was just told I was done by the nurse, while donating blood, when I broke out in a profuse sweat--soaking wet hair and dripping sweat from my face! They hurriedly applied ice packs to my forehead and chest to cool me down , I was also nauseated. They made me sit for 15minutes until I could get up and walk to a chair at table with juice and cookies. They never explained what caused this, and it has never happened before in all the many years I ve given blood (although previously through ARC). I went home and slept most of the day and called in sick today and slept most of today too. What happened? Should I stop donating blood?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

The incidence was due to vasovagal syncope event while donating the blood; for which multiple factors act as empty stomach, stress, anxiety or others.

This does not make you avoid the blood donation for the rest of your life.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel,
