Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Excessive Sweating In The Head And Neck?
I have experienced excessive sweating in my head and neck , with little exertion, for at least 7 years. I am 58 years old so beyond menopause stage. My primary care doctor put me on Effexor for anxiety and she thought this would decrease sweating symptoms but it has not. I am going to make an appointment with a dermatologist and second appointment with an endocrinologist, booked until November. This sweating has caused me to miss some social functions, hot and sweat even during the winter. Any suggestions for treatment or new medications ? Thanks
We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, you need to have Thyroid functions tested as over functioning Thyroid can cause such symptoms. Other endocrine conditions like Cushing or Conn's may cause the same rarely.
Other conditions like pheochromocytoma or carcinoid syndrome can cause such symptoms but these are very rarely. Treatment should be aimed after work up and should be cause specific.
Hope I have answered your query.
