What Causes Excessive Sweating On The Chin And Upper Lip?

Hi, I am 42 years old, eat mostly fruits and vegetables and occasionally overdo it on carbs like cereals and bread and drink a lot of water, more recently with lemon. I use only natural remedies for health problems, tea tree oil, take garlic regularly, don t take drugs or smoke, although I used to smoke. I walk a lot. I haven t been exercising as much as I used to. I live in a very humid and hot climate sometimes unbearably hot and I ve been sweating excessively, embarrassingly more and more. I recently experienced a 20 hour flight and when I arrived in the other country, my chin was peeling. Since childhood, I ve had what one might call overactive sweat glands, but was able to deal with it in warm to hot climates. I am sweating excessively on my chin and upper lip. While most people around me are also sweating alot due to the climate, it feels very uncomfortable and seems there is no relief, even sometimes in air-conditioned spaces. It takes a lot of time for my body to adjust to the air conditioning. What is going on please. I believe it may have something to do with hormones but don t know for sure. I need some natural, homeopathic ways to deal with this.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Excessive sweating is known as Hyperhidrosis. It could be either generalized i.e. in the full body, or localized i.e. in some specific parts of the body. The most common areas are the hands, feet, armpits, and the groin area as there is high concentration of sweat glands in these areas. The exact cause of excessive sweating is unknown; and can range from over-activity of the sympathetic nervous system to simple triggers such as nervousness or excitement. Other factors include: certain foods, some drinks, smoking, coffee, etc. Simple treatment would be: find out the cause (emotional situations, eating), stay away from it, use deodorants. There are several syndromes in which excessive sweating has been reported. Eg: Sweaty Palms Syndrome, Harlequin Syndrome, etc. For a complete diagnosis, physical examination and family history would have to be done. The same can be done with any Geneticist / Dermatologist

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
