Hi, I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns. As per your complain spitting of thick mucus can be seen in case of acid reflux when the acid reflux from stomach to throat and causes excessive stimulation of salivary glands leading to excess mucous formation. Other cause can be post nasal drip secondary to sinus infection while other causes like upper respiratory tract infection and lung infection can be a cause. If you do not have any other symptoms or problems and it has happened for the first time you need not to worry but in case of repeated episodes consult an otolaryngologist and get evaluated. In case if acid reflux is the diagnosis then you can be advised to take Proton Pump Inhibitors like Omeprazole or Pantoprazole. Take antacids like Milk of magnesia. Avoid spicy food and drink plenty of water. Always take walk after meals and take your dinner at least 2 hours before sleep. You should sleep with head slightly raised as compared to feet.
