What Causes Excessive Weight Gain After Taking Amiodarone And Bystolic?

I am taking amiodarone and bystolic. I have gained weight since I began them 12 years ago and I cannot lose any of it. I am not a snacker nor do I eat candy most days. I do not add sugar to beverages, etc. What can I do other than stop taking the meds that cause weight gain? YYYY@YYYY

Hi
Thanks for posting on HCM
Excessive weight may not be due to these drugs. These drugs are anti-hypertensive drugs.Amiodarone being an anti-arythmic and bystolic a beta blocker. These drugs will not be prescribed to you if they have as side effect excess weight gain as the first step to fighting hypertension is weight control.
You gain weight when you eat more than you work, that is, when energy you receive from food is more than what you use for your activities. The excess energy will be stored in the form of proteins in muscle and fats in adipose tissues.Stopping your drugs may instead cause you more problems.I will advise you try the following:
-Exercise regularly
-Eat only when hungry
-Eat in small quantities and balanced
-Take more of fruits and vegetables
You will also need to see your Doctor or a Cardiologist for evaluation.A lipid profile test will be very useful to you to see if you will be in need of a statin group of drugs.
Hope my answer will help you
Best regards
